General Information
Overview of Darlington EHE setup. Supplied by Jennifer Gilby from Darlington Borough Council (see link to her details above)
Darlington Borough Council is not actually part of Durham County
Council, we separated in the 90s. We are located in the North East,
near the North Yorkshire and Cleveland borders. We usually have around
90 EHEs, of which about two-thirds are from the traveller community, out
of a compulsory-education age population of around 14,000.
In Darlington EHE work falls under Education Other Than At School
(EOTAS), which also includes the Home and Hospital Teaching Service (for
children in hospital or unable to attend school for medical reasons) and
the Pupil Referral Units (one for children with behavioural difficulties
who have been, or are at risk of, being excluded from school and one
which provides vocational training, maths and English for children who
are more interested in that side of things, or who benefit from the
smaller class sizes and high levels of support).
EHE has no dedicated staff or budget. All the officers have other jobs.
