The education officer I deal with is based at Swansea, West Glamorgan.

Her name is Mrs. Elvira Mann.

I have met up with her on 6 occassions (well invited her into my home if being honest), and I have to say that she has been very caring, helpful and goes out of her way to praise the work that my 2 children do each year.

Both of my children have special needs (but this was never recognised when they were in school), the boys love her coming for the yearly visits and love the feedback that is received around 2 weeks after each visit.

To date we have had fantastic reports - in the most recent feedback report she has even praised the home education for helping the children in many ways. I have it in black and white in the report that home education is certainly a positive for the children!!!

So I think this lady should definitely go into the 'Hall of fame' she is wonderful.

Its just a pity not everyone is having the same experience as we do with our E/O.

I always assumed that she was an EWO, but when she realised this she nearly had a fit. Apparently in Swansea the EWO Department only come on board if they cannot ensure that the children are okay. According to this lady, I would not have that problem as I welcome them into my home voluntarily, she is able to talk to the kids (NO interviews - only thing she has ever asked the boys is if they are happy being home educated - obviously they reply with YES lol...and that is all she ever asks, I purposely leave her in one room alone with the children (but within earshot), and that satisfy's her when I make a cuppa for us all !!.

From my own personal point of view, if the kids are doing work, and are seen in the community are involved in groups etc then there are no problems in this area. The main focus is on children in the area that no one seems to see out and about, and don't meet up with the authority, which i suppose with all the bad press lately they will start to go OTT.

I just hope and pray, no other parties will get involved. If I only have to deal with this lady to satisfy the education department then that will suit me fine, I won't object to home visits.
